Constraints on stellar yields and SNe from gamma-ray line observations
Gamma-ray line observations provide a versatile tool for studies of nucleosynthesis processes and supernova physics. In particular, the observation of radioactive species in the interstellar medium probes recent nucleosynthesis activity on various time-scales for different kinds of sources. Considerable progress in gamma-ray instrumentation during the last decades has led to the discovery of se...
متن کاملSolar and Stellar Gamma Ray Observations with COMPTON
Observations by the Compton GRO are providing fundamental insights into the high-energy physics of solar ares. Most of the analyses have been made of the ares emitted by active region number 6659 in 1991 June. Hard X-ray pulses in ares show energy dependent delays of up to 200 ms due to time of ight, consistent with the location of an acceleration region above the soft X-ray loop and an impact ...
متن کاملGamma-ray Line Observations with Rhessi
The Reuven Ramaty High Energy Solar Spectroscopic Imager (RHESSI) has been observing gammaray lines from the Sun and the Galaxy since its launch in February 2002. Here I summarize the status of RHESSI observations of solar lines (nuclear de-excitation, neutron capture, and positron annihilation), the lines of Al and Fe from the inner Galaxy, and the search for positron annihilation in novae.
متن کاملConstraints on Cosmic-ray Origin Theories from Tev Gamma-ray Observations
If supernova remnants (SNRs) are the sites of cosmic-ray acceleration, the associated nuclear interactions should result in observable fluxes of TeV gamma-rays from the nearest SNRs. Measurements of the gamma-ray flux from six nearby, radio-bright, SNRs have been made with the Whipple Observatory gamma-ray telescope. No significant emission has been detected and upper limits on the >300 GeV flu...
متن کاملConstraints on cosmic-ray origin from TeV gamma-ray observations of supernova remnants
If supernova remnants (SNRs) are the site of cosmicray acceleration, the associated nuclear interactions should result in an observable flux of γ-rays for the nearest SNRs. Measurements of the TeV γ-ray flux from six nearby, radio-bright SNRs have been made with the Whipple Observatory imaging air Čerenkov telescope over the period September 1993 to June 1996. No significant emission has been d...
